Herbal Properties

Oolong Tea is produced through a unique process including withering the plant under the strong sun and oxidation before curling and twisting. The tea undergoes only a small degree of fermentation during processing, giving it a flavour similar to black tea however it is more akin to green tea. Health claims for oolong tea’s benefits include reduction of cholesterol levels, preservation of heart health, treatment of digestive disorders, strengthening of the immune system, and formation of strong bones.

Flavour:  Moderately rich, aromatic and smooth.

Serving Suggestion: 1-2 teaspoons per person. Ideal temperature for green tea brewing is between 85-90˚C.  Steep for 2-3 minutes for full flavour to develop.

Brewing

Ideal water temperature for black and green styles of tea is between 85 – 90 °C.  One teaspoon of loose leaf black or green tea is recommended for every 150ml (5.07 oz) of water.  Those containing herbals are bulkier and may require one to two teaspoons depending on the type.  For the first and second brewing, leaves should be steeped for around one minute for black and green teas. For the full flavour and therapeutic qualities of herbal teas to be enjoyed it is recommended too steep for 4 mins. It is also recommended that the tea cup or tea pot used be rinsed with hot water prior to brewing the tea to warm the vessels.  Filtered water is recommended.
