Karen is a qualified Naturopath, Nutritionist and Western Medicine Herbalist who is passionate about helping others lead, happy healthy lives. She owns Gaining Health Naturally, an integrative health clinic in Victoria, Australia with consultations available face to face, online and via the phone.
Since qualifying, Karen has worked for several natural health clinics, taught and mentored students within this field and is currently completing her Masters in Speech Pathology (2020). After working as a Home Economics, Health and Nutrition teacher, Karen pursued her passion working as a Health Practitioner for Balance for Life and set up a division of this practice in South Australia.
After many years, she embarked on a career within the tourism industry as a Tour Director for AAT Kings/Trafalgar Tours and was fortunate to lead Wild Flower tours in Western Australia which led to further exposure of one of her passions; nature and plants. Karen has lived and worked as a Manager in Singapore for a Health Club, and came full circle moving back into her first love of natural medicine and obtained formal qualifications as a Naturopath, Nutritionist and Herbalist 10 years ago. She has also studied NLP (neuro linguistic programming).
Apart from digestive concerns, autoimmunity, mood disorders, menopause and nutrigenomics (food and lifestyle may affect your genes), she has a special interest in ‘MTHFR’, genetics, and your gut microbiome. She has completed practitioner training in MTHFR with Dr Ben Lynch (USA). She is passionate about helping clients with stress management, skin concerns, autoimmune conditions such as Diabetes, Psoriasis and Hashimoto’s Disease, anxiety and depression, improving sleep, reducing fatigue and hormonal disorders including PMS.
As a Home Economist, Karen shows you how to use ‘food as medicine’ in your daily life, along with seasonal and lifestyle approaches to create health. With an intuitive approach she uses iridology, nail and tongue analysis, herbal medicines, practitioner range nutritional supplements, flower essences, genetic profiling, along with functional and pathology testing to determine the most appropriate treatment plan for her clients.
Karen enjoys making her own beauty and herbal based medicinal creams and is passionate about writing health and creative workshops to inspire and create change. She is also an intuitive Tea Leaf Reader.
She is a full member of the National Herbalist Association of Australia NHAA in which she also worked as an Executive Director.
Karen believes that the every day simple choices affect our health. We need to revisit, review, and regroup to recreate health. She likes to delve deeply into what has happened along your journey asking many questions and believes in a holistic approach integrating both modern day science with ancient traditions to healing. She hopes to inspire clients to take a preventative approach to health, as everything flows from self. There are many ways to bring the body back into balance and for each it is an individual path.
